Fancy a bird's eye view over Osoyoos? How about a spectacular view down the valley over Cawston? Looking for a fun hike with spectacular views in the South Okanagan? Check out Mt. Kobau!
Mt. Kobau is an easily accessible mountain nestled in between Osoyoos and Cawston. Get there by taking Hwy 3A west of Osoyoos towards Keremeos. Look out for Mt. Kobau Forest Service Road on your right. Follow the well-maintained road up, up, up, taking in the lovely vistas on the way. It is pretty obvious when you get to the trailhead as there is a parking lot and a map of the trail. Easy peasy!
There are two trail options once you reach the parking lot. A 1.3 KM round trip hike to a view overlooking Osoyoos, or a 3 KM loop trail that leads the opposite direction to the Chopaka Lookout with views over the Keremeos/Cawston Valley. The pictures in this article are from the 3 KM loop. We visited in early July and were stunned by all of the beautiful wildflowers!
Check out this view! So stunning!
The hike is not a hard hike and anyone in reasonable shape should be able to do it easily. If you are coming in Spring or early Summer, do remember to bring some mosquito repellant as when we visited there were quite a few trying to take blood donations from us!
